After all of the bad weather we had on Thursday, Friday dawned with blue skies and chilly temperatures. And wind. Lots of wind. But that’s okay, we weren’t driving an RV anywhere so we didn’t have to worry about that too much.
It was a very busy day for us. It started out with somebody coming to pick up the box springs I had advertised for free on the local Facebook page. It only took a couple of minutes to load into the back of the gentleman’s pickup truck and he was gone. One less thing to worry about.
I checked the morning deluge of emails and responded to the most pressing ones. Then about noon I left to take a friend to an appointment in New Smyrna Beach. That didn’t take too long and we were back home within the hour.
Our good friends Russ and Debbie Davis had contacted us a few days ago to say they were in St. Augustine visiting their son and daughter and wanting to know if we could get together for lunch. Sure, we always have time for our friends from our RVing days. Especially when food is involved.
They actually arrived soon after I left to go to town, and when I got back they were visiting with Miss Terry. Maybe it’s just my imagination, but I’m pretty sure they were talking about me. And knowing Russ, it wasn’t complimentary. But hey, that’s just my paranoia.
It’s been over a year since we last saw Russ and Debbie, and a lot has changed in their lives since then. After selling their beautiful Newell motorhome a while back and getting off the road, they found that the stationary life wasn’t working out for them and they needed to scratch their hitch itch. So they purchased a Class C motorhome and are back to fulltiming.
We always have a good time when we get together with these two, and this trip was no exception. Though Russ is not a Ford man, he was kind enough to compliment my Mustang. I’m not sure if that’s because it’s a nice car or just because it’s like seeing someone’s newborn baby. It’s considered gauche to say “what is that ugly thing?”
When Russ and Debbie were here last year we went to Goodrich Seafood, a very nice small restaurant on the water in nearby Oak Hill that is off the beaten track and popular with the locals. They liked it, so that’s where we went for lunch again yesterday. And while we may no longer be RVers, we know how to do lunch the RV way. You spend 15 or 20 minutes eating and two hours talking. And that’s just what we did!
Here’s a picture of the four of us, Miss Terry is on the left, with me behind her, and then that’s Debbie on the right, and the homely fellow behind her is Russ. Yeah, I know, she could do a lot better. People have been telling her that for years. Hell, I’ve been telling her that for years!
Thanks for coming to see us Russ and Debbie, it was a real treat. We look forward to getting together again sometime.
Back at home, I worked my way through the emails I hadn’t gotten to in the morning and those that came in during the day, deleting the never-ending forwards and spam from a nice man somewhere in Africa who wants to share millions of dollars with me and a hot Russian nymphomaniac who just wants me, and replying to those emails that needed a reply.
Then about 8 PM Terry and I settled down in our recliners for some TV time. We’ve been watching the first season of Ozark on Netflix and wrapped it up and watched the first episode of Season Two. It’s a pretty good series, but I warn you that the language can be rough, and there is some partial nudity and lots of violence. Then, after the 11 PM news it was time to write the blog, take our showers, and head for bed.
It’s supposed to be another chilly day today, with a high of only 61°. I’m not sure what we have on the agenda yet, but I’m pretty sure we’ll find some way to keep ourselves occupied.
